Welcome to the Central Virginia Paint Horse Club Trails page!  We welcome all riding disciplines at our trail rides.  We love to see paint horses, but welcome other breeds as well.  We encourage membership at our trail rides with non-member fees including membership to our club.  In 2011, our goal is to have at least 1 trail ride each season at different locations across the state.  See below for upcoming trail rides planned.

March 3 ~ CVPHC 2012 Winter Trail Ride ~ Petersburg National Battlefield
Saturday, 11:00 a.m.  (Rain/Snow Date Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 11am )
Join members on a scenic, leisurely trail ride thru part of our history at Petersburg Battlefield. Trails meander thru the woods, along creeks, over bridges, and thru fields. Front shoes or boots recommended. Bring water for your horse and make sure you have a negative Coggins. There is ample trailer parking with a large turning circle. Please clean up after you and your horse. The park requests no tying of horses to any trees. Day use fee $5 or you can purchase an annual pass for $15

After the ride, for those interested, we can eat at Prince George BBQ nearby in Disputanta.

Reminder to all CVPHC members wanting to compete for the 2012 CVPHC Ride America Most Hours Logged Award, please submit your name, horse name, and APHA ID # to Kim at burnopranch@yahoo.com or (757) 536-7888 by January 31st.  You can log your hours on APHA's website at http://www.apha.com/rideamerica/index.html  Hours submitted for 2012 award must occur between January 1 - December 31, 2012.  Don't forget state parks, you double your hours!  The winners will be notified and presented with an award at our banquet in February 2013. 

APHA Ride America Program

CVPHC encourages members to join APHA's Ride America program (http://www.apha.com/rideamerica/index.html), where APHA members log their hours spent riding or driving their Regular Registry or Solid Paint-Bred Horse.  APHA offers 14 achievement levels, which start at 100 hours and top off at 10,000 hours.  Patches, certificates of achievement, and discounts on Ride America awards are given at milestones.  Belt buckles are awarded for 10,000 hours.  Hour awards that each rider and horse achieve are recorded on the horse's lifetime performance record.  Riders can log their hours through APHA's online log site or submit a paper log.  Once a member logs in to APHA Online site, simply click on the Ride America Log Reports box to record hours.  https://www.aphaonline.org/aphaonline/login.aspx

CVPHC Members enrolled in APHA's Ride America program can log your hours from January 1 to December 31 each year to compete for our CVPHC Most Hours Logged Award.  Your hours must be logged through APHA by January 10th of the following year.
Log your hours in 2012 to become eligible for this year's club award!  Email your name, APHA ID #, and horse's name to our Trail Ride Coordinator Kim at burnopranch@yahoo.com or call (757) 536-7888 for more information.

CVPHC Summer Trail Ride at James River State Park
Saturday, June 25th, 2011
Members Only. Option to camp Thursday, Friday, and/or Saturday nights - June 23-25Optional tubing on James River Friday afternoon, June 24.Our next club trail ride will be held this summer, Saturday, June 25th at James River State Park in Buckingham County near Appomattox at 10am. There is a new campground w/20 stalls, 10 hook-ups, and 5 tent sites with a new bathhouse just completed. Kim has secured stalls and campsites so members will have the opportunity to overnight if they would like. Please contact Kim at (757) 536-7888 to RSVP and get reservation #s for campsite and stall(s). You must pay for campsites and stalls by Wednesday, May 25th thru state park reservation line. There is no guarantee reservations can be held after May 25 without payment. Our main club ride will be Saturday around 10am with a potluck to follow the ride. Please bring a main dish, side dish, or dessert to share. Don't forget your own drinks. View flyer for more details... Our state parks are celebrating their 75th anniversary and we are joining in the celebration. Virginia offers 35 state parks and each has its own various amenities creating fun, relaxing atmospheres. James River State Park has a nice variety of activities members and their families can partake in. Anyone interested in tubing on the James River, we will go as a group Friday afternoon. There are also kayaks and canoes for rent, as well as various interpretive programs in the park. There are numerous hiking and biking trails in addition to horse trails. For anyone camping, be prepared to enjoy some smores around a campfire! CVPHC Fall Trail Ride and Work Day November 11-13, 2011
Trail Ride at Occoneechee State Park Friday, 11/11 & Sunday, 11/13 Work Day at Staunton River State Park Saturday, 11/12 at 10am Enjoy over 7 miles of multi-use trails at your leisure throughout Occoneechee State Park in Clarksville Friday and/or Sunday. Front shoes or hoof boots recommended. Help us support Staunton River State Park in nearby Scottsburg Saturday by joining members clearing trails damaged from an April tornado. Over 1000 trees were lost from this devastating storm and severely damaged their trail system. Camping is available at the Occoneechee parking area starting Friday, November 11th. Stalls and electric hook-ups are available by calling the State Park Reservation Line at 800-933-7275. Campsites are $15/night; stalls are $9/night + taxes and $5 one time transaction fee. Day use fees are Park Fee of $3 + $2 for each additional horse in trailer. Current Negative Coggins required at entrance. Park rangers recommend wearing blaze orange due to hunting season. No alcohol on the trails. Use of any alcoholic beverages is prohibited in state parks. Saturday, members will truck pool over to Staunton River for the work day. Plan about 4-5 hours of work. Please wear long pants and work boots. Bring gloves, loppers, water, snacks, eye and hearing protection if you need it, etc. Park will provide eye and hearing protection if folks do not have any they normally use. For members meeting at Staunton River Saturday, plan to gather at visitor center at 9:45am. Please RSVP by November 9th to Kim at (757) 536-7888 or call with your questions.  

 

Congratulations to CVPHC's 2010 Award Winners

Congrats to our CVPHC Ride America Most Hours Logged in 2010 Winner ~ Laura Fitzgerald and The Sonny Side of Zip of Chesapeake, VA!  In 2nd place is Kim Vaughan and My Circuit Burner of Chesapeake.  2010 CVPHC Most Hours Logged awards are donated by Kim's Farrier Service of Chesapeake. 

2010 Hi-Point winner received an embroidered hooded windbreaker with the CVPHC logo and 2010 Ride America Hi-Point.   Laura has promised to wear her jacket proudly to promote the CVPHC and the Ride America program.  Reserve hi-point won an embroidered tote bag.
