Recognizing and Rewarding Quality
Paint Horse Breeding in Virginia

 Purpose and Goals

Our primary purpose is to promote the Virginia paint horse industry by recognizing and rewarding quality paint horse breeding in the Commonwealth.  A successful VBP program will increase Virginia equine economic activity related to the Paint Horse breed by enhancing profit opportunities for both new and existing owners and breeders. An increase in quality Paint Horse breeding will also benefit registered Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse owners and breeders, since they are the only other breeds allowed as sire or dam of registered Paint foals.  Secondary goals include increasing club membership, raising awareness of paint horse activities, and increased participation of Virginia’s paint horse owners and competitors in sanctioned APHA events.

VBP will complement CVPHC’s existing Breeders Futurity Program

CVPHC will manage a Virginia Bred Program (VBP) to meet the goal of promoting the Virginia horse industry by recognizing and rewarding quality paint horse breeding in the Commonwealth.  The VBP will be complementary to our existing Breeders Futurity Program and will operate with similar structure, rules, and timelines.  Grant funds provided by VHIB will be used exclusively to reward owners and breeders of American Paint Horse Association (APHA) registered horses foaled in Virginia.   Entry fees will be required for participants to compete for the opportunity to receive incentive funds.  Twenty percent of the entry fees will be retained by CVPHC to pay expenses for awards, facilities, judges and show administration.  VBP classes will be judged by APHA approved judges according to APHA rules as published in the current Official APHA Rule Book.

CVPHC's VBP is sponsored in part by a $3,000 grant from the Virginia Horse Industry Board (VHIB)
